I taught both of my boys some ASL sign language when they were babies (as I mentioned before here) and it was so fun to watch them learn another language and use it to communicate as wee babies and toddlers.
It was also a good challenge for me.
Even all these years later, I still prefer to use the sign language numbers instead of counting on two hands. It so much more efficient than using two hands. Plus, it's a good finger motor workout too! Not that I need a good finger workout since I'm a piano player and also do a lot of typing for this blog of mine...
But anyway, if you are looking to teach your kids ASL for numbers, then these free printable cards and poster are perfect! They show kids how to make numbers in sign language from 1-10.

You and your kids can probably already do the ASL signs for two, four, and five since they're kind of the universal way to count on fingers. The rest of the numbers, though, are probably new to you and your child.
I think the number three was probably the hardest one for me to remember to do correctly since my urge was always to put up all three fingers (no pinky or thumb) since that's how I was taught to count with my fingers as a child. But if you do that, you're signing the letter W, not the number three.
But don't worry, you'll master it in no time too because the free printable sign language numbers poster and cards below are helpful for teaching your kids (or you!) how to count from 1 to 10 in American Sign Language.
