When you have a child "diagnosed" with hypernumeracy like I do, then you know how calming numbers can be to the child.
It's why my free printable calm down hero story works so well too.
So when I can, I try to combine his interest in numbers with whatever strategy or skill I want him to learn.
This free printable Christmas deep breathing exercise for kids is a great way to work on coping skills and mindfulness this Christmas, while including some numbers to make it more enticing to the kids who love numbers.
A Simple Breathing Exercise for Kids with a Christmas Twist
This breathing technique for kids is a bit different than the other Christmas breathing exercises I have here on the blog.
Instead of tracing a shape, this exercise encourages kids to combine deep breathing with counting, which are two really good coping strategies to teach kids anyway.
The exercise encourages to kids to take at least five full deep breaths (more if they want to repeat it), while they move their finger around the wreath. It's up to your child to decide if they want to count from one to five or switch things up and count backwards from five to one. Either or works.

As for how to do the actual deep breathing technique, simply count and breathe by following the instructions on the printable. And repeat as needed.
