I've had the pleasure of teaching tons of kids piano over the years (I've been a piano teacher for over 10 years now).
And whenever I have a student playing in a piano recital for the first time, we go over all the logistics together and spend some time practicing etiquette. Yes, that includes teaching my students how to bow properly and allowing them time to practice in the weeks leading up to the actual recital.
Some kids require a bit more preparation and that's why I've written this free social story about piano recitals.
About the Free Printable Social Story
This social story explains what a piano recital is and how it works. It even allows space for your child to write the names of the songs that they will be playing in the recital.
Some of the photos used in this social story aren't ideal. For instance, I couldn't find a good photo of a kid bowing properly. All the good ones featured kids in karate suits so I had to use what I could find from my stock photo sites.
I highly suggest laminating the social story for durability. You can use binder rings to keep the social story together or store it in a binder. As an alternative to laminating, you could use sheet protectors in a binder. Or if you find yourself printing off lots of social stories, then this binding machine is a lifesaver!
