It's easy to find autism books for kids, but hyperlexia books? Not so much.
That's why I'm finally putting this free printable hyperlexia social story up on the blog (it's only been in my drafts for a couple of months...).
Your hyperlexic child should be able to see themselves reflected in some kind of literature, but it doesn't exist (yet!). Until then, this social story is designed to be the first step to introducing your child to their hyperlexic label and showing them how wonderful their hyperlexic brain truly is.
About the Free Printable Hyperlexia Social Story
This social story is all about hyperlexia. It's designed to help you explain hyperlexia to your hyperlexic child, describing what hyperlexia is and what being hyperlexic means.
It has lots of spaces for your hyperlexic child to fill in their special interests, their strengths, and gives them space to outline accommodations or strategies that help them learn. The story is designed to be empowering to your child, showing them that being hyperlexic is a good thing.
I highly suggest laminating the social story for durability. You can use binder rings to keep the social story together or store it in a binder. As an alternative to laminating, you could use sheet protectors in a binder. Or if you find yourself printing off lots of social stories, then this binding machine is a lifesaver!
